Ken Phillips

Ken Phillips has spent a lifetime making decisions that impact the lives of others, which makes him well suited to take the reigns as the Chairman of the Henry County Water & Sewerage Authority's (HCWSA) Board of Commissioners.

A native of Raysville, La., Phillips attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, before entering into the U. S. Army. During his three years at Fort McPherson, Phillips worked in the recruiting office before receiving an honorary discharge after the end of the Vietnam War. While serving in the military, Ken married his wife Faye and relocated permanently to Georgia. They have a son Craig and a daughter Robin.

Enjoying the Georgia lifestyle, Ken began his civilian career in Atlanta with Delta Air Lines, where he worked as a Material Planner for over 29 years. In that capacity, Phillips managed purchasing and provisions for Delta's L-1011, known as the "Delta Belle." In doing so, he procured propulsion engine parts for Delta on one of the most famous jets in aviation.

"I really enjoyed my years with Delta. They were very good to me," he says.

A resident of Henry County since 1985, Phillips served on the Henry County Development Authority from 1988 - 1992. "My years in the military taught me about public service," he adds. "Moving into another service role was a way to give back to the community that has given so much to me."

Since completing his tenure on the Development Authority, Phillips has served on the HCWSA Board since 1992, representing District 2. Originally appointed by Janet Home, he now serves at the pleasure of Gary Friedman, the current District 2 Henry County Commissioner.

His ascension to HCWSA Board Chairman is just another step in a long career of public service. "It is an honor to serve in this role as chairman of this board," he says. "(Former HCWSA Chairman) Howell Gardner has left some big shoes to fill, but I am confident that with the talent we have on this board and on our staff, this Authority has a bright future."
